About

About The Homestead

In 1919, a group of concerned individuals met to discuss an identified community need, housing for the older community members living on Nantucket. This group incorporated and began working on raising funds to achieve their goal. In 1929 they had raised enough to purchase the single-family home at 115 Main Street. Renovations took about a year, and “The Old People’s Home” opened in July of 1930. For 100 years, The Homestead, a private non-profit organization, has been dedicated to providing services to seniors. We offer a comfortable family-like environment for those choosing a more simplified and carefree lifestyle, and we strive to keep this option affordable to as many as we can.
