February Newsletter

Dear Friends:

Well, we have had quite the winter so far!  Between the snowstorms and the norovirus our need for adventure has definitely been fulfilled!  Many, many thanks to Jen Eccles, Brendel and Shelley for all their TLC to our residents and for the great cleaning job done!  Also a big thanks to Roz and Jen Killen for all the coverage and special meal preparations throughout  the illness, that I'm sure made people feel well cared for!  We couldn't have managed without you!  Everyone went above and beyond their duties!  Thank you all so much!

We did lose our power very briefly during the snowstorm, and our generator kicked right in and provided us a great feeling of security.  Of course, Brian has not been able to help us with the shoveling lately, so I have to thank my husband David for his early morning shoveling duties.  Hopefully we are done with the shoveling for a while.

Our newest resident, Bill Rowland, has a love for singing, and has started the Homestead Glee Club!  He and Roz work together to pick out 3 or 4 songs for each weekly performance and after the evening meal the residents and staff sing for 15-20 minutes.  It is a very nice way to end the day.

One evening this past month, David Lazarus, accompanied by Lisa McCandless, came by and read the poem, "The Raven" to everyone after supper.  Everyone really enjoyed the reading, and we have lots of interest in having others come by to read or sing with us.  Please let me know if anyone is interested in sharing just a few minutes in the early evening.  The reward is so much greater than the time spent!

Paul Connors spent an afternoon with us this month, playing his guitar and singing some love songs!  They really sparked some memories for many of our residents, and he even had a few that were new to all of us!  We are very grateful for Paul's generosity to The Homestead.  We also had a wonderful Valentine Dessert Party on the 14th!  There were great treats made by Diane and enjoyed by all!

Our new website is up and running.  Please visit us at  We are hoping we will be able to reach out to more potential residents with this venue, so please take a look and let me know what you think.  Your thoughts and ideas are most welcomed!

There were no birthdays in February, but we have several in March!  On the 2nd we will celebrate John's birthday, Tish on the 12th, Diane on the 24th, and Bert and Brian both on the 28th!  Happy Birthday to all!

Hopefully you are all having a wonderful winter.  Enjoy this quiet time on the island, because it won't be long before the pace picks up for the summer season.  Happy St. Patrick's Day to all!

See you soon,
