What's Happening at The Homestead

07-17-2011

Dear Friends:

It's been a busy winter here at The Homestead. We were without our laundry facilities for several weeks, but it all paid off in the end. The room looks great, and Jennifer Eccles has really loved having the new machines. Thanks to Jen for the long wait, and thanks to the many workman it took to complete this project: Tom Paterson and crew, Bob Gauthier, Bill Willet and crew, Craig Baker and crew, and of course Brian Davis for his coordinating the crews.

Our dear resident Margaret Warner has had a fall and has broken her pelvis. She had a brief stay at Nantucket Cottage Hospital, and is now participating in the rehab program at Our Island Home. We wish her a speedy recovery, and hope she will be home soon!

We do still have a room with a half bath that is vacant. It is one of the larger rooms and is at the back of the house. It gets lots of sunlight! Please spread the word!

We had several birthdays that we celebrated in March. John Bartlett had a birthday on the 2nd, Tish on the 12th, Diane on the 24th, and Bert Johnston and Brian Davis on the 28th! Happy belated birthday to everyone! Upcoming birthdays include Lucy Gardner Murray on the 16th of April, and Frances Elder on the 22nd! Best wishes to Lucy and Frances for very happy birthdays!

We held our 6th annual "Paint the Town" Fundraiser on the 26th of March. The evening was a great success, as always. The guys at the Legion did a fabulous job with the meal again this year. Everyone worked well together throughtout the night to ensure a very smooth running event. Many thanks to Bob Lehman for the autioneering and the laughter! Bob does a great job for us, and he had me laughing most of the night! Thanks to Joan Bunting and Kim Ramos for all their organizing and soliciting efforts, and for helping to keep all of us energized and focused. Many thanks to our friends and neighbors that came out and attended the event and bid on the lovely aution items that we had. Thank you all so much!

Now that the weather is becoming warmer, we would love to have a volunteer to come by and take folks out for a ride during the week. Everyone enjoys getting out and visiting different parts of the island that they may not have seen in a while. Please give me a call if you are interested.

Have a great spring!
